Gunpowder Plot - Sweatshirt
$44.00
The Gunpowder Plot was a conspiracy of English Roman Catholics to blow up Parliament and King James I, his queen, and his eldest son on November 5, 1605. The leader of the plot, Robert Catesby, together with his four coconspirators - Thomas Winter, Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes—were zealous Roman Catholics angered by James’s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. They hoped that the confusion that would follow would provide an opportunity for the English Catholics to take over the country. The plot was revealed to the authorities in an anonymous letter sent to William Parker. During a search of the House of Lords in the evening on 4 November 1605, Fawkes was discovered guarding 36 barrels of gunpowder and arrested.
